Artcore International and Hotel Elephant are pleased to present Artcore International 14, a four-day Arts Festival taking place this May, in SE1.

The first of an annual showcase of works created by its members, Artcore International 14 provides a unique opportunity to discover a wealth of talented practitioners currently working in London. Spread across two warehouses, Hotel Elephant’s non-traditional gallery spaces offers an alternative visitor experience, by enabling a vast range of work to exist together in one space.

Presented as a journey through the current Artistic practises of its members, the festival rubs Street Art and 3d Mapping, up against contemporary Painting and Photography, Kinetic Sculpture and Performance against Ceramics and Drawing.

During this four-day festival, visitors will be able to experience, the 15-foot fire-breathing dragon created by Paka The Uncredible alongside the satirical photography of Joe Giacomet. The eight-piece soul band Vibrations of Sound share the bill with the bass heavy break beats of Jason Warlock from the Rag and Bone label. Plus, established documentary filmmakers such as Jes Benstock, screening work beside upcoming makers of short fiction film, including Dan Moss.

Artcore International 14 includes work by Artists from groups such as, Mutoid Waste, Whitecross Street Party, Mad in England and Dotmasters.

Building Begins for Cardboard Southwark!

May 2014

Twelve Southwark Primary Schools build Southwark out of cardboard led by Artist Reuben Powell.
May saw the beginning of the education project; Building A City - Cardboard Southwark.
Each class will get the chance to visit Hotel Elephant twice to take part in this collaborative art project initiated by the Southwark Schools Collaborative.

After researching the local landscape around their school, the children will start by working in groups to create different area's out of cardboard. These range from local parks, flyovers, pubs, schools and housing estates.
On their second visit the children will get the chance to paint their creations, finishing off their area of Southwark.

This project will culminate in an exhibition of all the work created in the project. A cardboard city which you can walk through.

A big thank you to Loop Recycling who have kindly supported the project by suppling all the cardboard.
